The earliest type of furniture which was made by humans was stools to sit on, simply by cutting logs of wood. From then to now, we have indeed covered a long distance. Now, wooden office furniture is available in all shapes, sizes, design and finishing.
Wood is composed of cellulose, therefore it is porous; as a result it is vulnerable to moisture. When humidity in the air increases, wood absorbs water and swells a little; when the humidity decreases, wood gives off moisture and shrinks. This may lead it to split or crack, and may damage its finish. High humidity can also promote the growth of mould. So, all these points have to be taken care of if you want your furniture to sparkle forever.
The white rings caused by wet glasses can be easily tackled. Remove surface wax with mineral spirits and a soft cloth. Then use a new cloth to absorb moisture by wiping rubbing alcohol on the area. You may also dry the wood with a hair dryer. If the finish feels sticky, rub lightly and rapidly. If it still does not work, you may use dry or wet sandpaper dipped in baby oil. Restore the look finally by using new wax.
Where the bare wood shows on worn furniture edges, use furniture touch up pen available in hardware shops and furniture dealers. Rub on gently with your fingers to blend it properly. If nail polish or melted candle wax spills on your table top, it should be left to dry instead of instinctively wiping it off. Scrape it gently with a butter knife and apply a coat of wax to bring back the shine.
Keep this tip in mind when someone spills nail polish on your wood furniture. You can remove it from the wood without ruining the finish if you resist the urge to wipe it up.
To beautify the look of wooden furniture, spray furniture polish on a rag, and wipe over the surface. Avoid polishing directly as the article is already polished and you should add as thin a layer as possible. Always remember to dust off the furniture as frequently as possible as it pays a long way in improving the look and life of your furniture.
You may even wipe it with a soapy cloth; just make sure that the soap is gentle enough. Never use ammonia based cleaners on your wooden furniture. Do not place your wooden furniture in direct sunlight as this may cause it to dry and become brittle and colorless.
