Monitoring Software
Monitoring software are helpful tools to a certain extent and large and middle sized companies have been using legitimate monitoring program for work surveillance in order to ensure information security and local network accountability. Does one know that this legal monitoring software installed on computers has another form called keylogging spyware.
These keylogging spyware share common features with legitimate monitoring software. These programs can spy and can log keystrokes and mouse clicks. They can compile a neat log file and send it to the person who installed this program on the PC.
The technology applied to monitoring software is a dual purpose one. It is neither a good thing or bad thing as numerous things can be done for several purposes nor not all of them are permissible.
If one cannot pre-configure the monitoring module and install it remotely, it cannot be termed as spyware. One should have administrator privilege in order to install the program as it is monitoring software. There are many vendors who advertise their monitoring products with remote deployment. These programs cannot be distinguished from malicious keyloggers as some of them are actually Trojan Horse program which can be sent by e-mail as a greeting card. |
