Even if you have a slight allergy to latex, you may want to have different gloves, as the tattoo artist will be doing a lot of stretching the skin and touching already tattooed areas. This can lead to swelling, irritation, and more discomfort than necessary, and can negatively affect the healing process. In some cases the A&D ointment is used instead of Vaseline for covering the finished tattoo. Cod liver oil is one of the major component of A&D ointment. Some people have allergy for fish oil. They can opt for Vaseline or bacitracin.
Nickel is one of the metals that are put into the tattoo inks, it is considered to be the most allergic material among the materials that are used for tattoo ink. So, to avoid these, one should make a 24 hour dot test for metal allergy. The dot test should also done for color. Henna, that is considered as one of the tattoos have chemical para-phenylene diame(PPD), which can cause the " tattooed area to be swollen or itchy. The problem may continue for months. As henna is not good for skin, most of times doctors advice for not to use henna as a skin decorator.
