Tattoo Aftercare

After getting tattooed, responsibility of your artist ends and it's now your turn to take proper care of your tattoo to stay away from any infection. You should carefully and strictly adhere to the aftercare guidelines provided to you by your tattoo artist. Lack of proper care can turn your beautiful tattoo into a nightmare. Taking good care of your tattoo will enable you to keep your tattoo in shape for a long time.

Fresh engraved tattoos are like fresh wounds and thus are breeding ground for bacterial infection, so the artist covers the tattooed area with a bandage to keep it away from air. If proper care is not taken then the whole experience might turn out to be a disaster. So, tattoo aftercare is of great significance.

Following are the important guidelines for tattoo aftercare:-

  • The tattooed area should be kept covered to keep it away from air and dirt. The bandage should be left in for a few hours to cover the open flesh.
  • After taking off the bandage the area should be washed gently with water and antibacterial soap and then dry it off with a soft towel with light hands followed with the prescribed ointment.
  • When the tattoo begins to itch, then it's the signal of healing. So, you need not panic and scratch it, just apply a mild lotion on it. And if you face a scabbing problem, moisturize it at small intervals and leave it to heal on its own.
  • After full healing of your tattoo, you need to protect it from the sun's ultraviolet rays as these rays can fade your tattoo. Apply a minimum of 30SPF sunscreen lotion on it to protect it from the damage caused by the sun and let it glow vibrantly.

Tattoo aftercare is definitely the most important part of tattooing. A good professional artist can help you with your aftercare instructions manual, so it's very important that you go to a licensed professional tattoo artist.

You should never apply anything to your tattooed area without consulting your tattoo artist or a skin care specialist because there is a possibility of getting allergic to the products you use and can lead to color loss disfigurement of your tattoo.
