Tattoos are increasingly gaining more prominence in today's pop cultured modern scenario. The word tattoo is originated from the Tahitian word 'tatu' which means 'to mark'. Tattooing is also technically known as micropigment implantation. Tattoo is a permanent design made on the skin by pricking and ingraining an indelible pigment or by the process of raising scars.

Tattoos are a raze today, especially among youngsters. It is estimated that over 39 million people in North America sports tattoo. Tattooing is a type of body modification. A number of celebrities nowadays sports a tattoo and proudly displays their body art.

Today it's a common sight to spot people of all age groups with tattoos. Tattoos come in all sizes and shapes big and small, colored or hennaed ones etc. and can be engraved on almost any part of the body whether it is ankles, arms, lower back, chest or belly. Tattoos are considered as very happening and fashionable and have become a trend that shows no sign of fading.

Today tattooing is considered as an art and a commonly practiced means of body decoration in which markings are formed on the body by needles and color is inserted into it. In early era in some cultures, tattoos served the purpose of identification of the wearer's status in a group or his belonging to a particular community.

Earlier people used to get mostly their arms tattooed with their names or their clan's name solely for the purpose of identification but today people get tattooed just for the fun of it.

Tattoos are created by puncturing skin and injecting ink into the skin by sharp stainless steel needles fixed to a hand held tool known as tattoo-gun. Ink is inserted into the skin through a group of needles that are attached onto a bar with an oscillating unit which repeatedly and rapidly drives the needles in and out of the skin to form the tattoo design.
