Safety Measures

Tattooing involves risk of dangerous diseases and infections like HIV and hepatitis etc. which have raked up many safeties related concerns and has led to the implementation of safety measures to avoid the risks. Most of the tattoo risk issues are related with tattoo removal, tattoo equipments and reactions to tattoo colors. So, proper safety measures should be taken before getting tattooed.

Following are the important safety measures to be adopted before getting tattooed:-

  • A tattoo parlor must be licensed and the artist should be a professional.
  • The needles and razors, etc. should be disposable and should be opened in front of you and be disposed off after each tattooing process.
  • Tattoo ink should be poured into disposable caps to avoid contamination of the main ink source as the particles can also be there in the ink used in tattooing.
  • Things used in tattooing like spray bottles should be covered with a plastic covering.
  • Equipments used in tattooing with some good sterilizing machine like Autoclave Sterilizer which is the proven and accepted method used for sterilizing.
  • After care instructions should be given to you in writing by the tattoo artist.
  • Tattooing should not be done if there is any skin problem like a cut, acne and pimples or any other abnormality.
  • You should ensure that the tattoo practitioner disinfects the skin area to be tattooed using a skin antiseptic prior to the procedure.
  • All the lotions or ointments to be applied to the tattooed should be applied by the practitioner with clean hands.
  • The tattoo practitioner should wear gloves while tattooing.
  • All the dyes and colors used in tattooing should be approved for use on the skin.

As the old saying goes "Prevention is better then cure", so you should ensure that your tattoo practitioner is adopting all the required safety measures.
